-Welcome-

To the Clan Donnachaidh Society of Florida

Web Site!

Clan Donnachaidh three main family names are: Duncan, Reid, and Robertson. Clan Donnachaidh (Gaelic name), also known as Clan Robertson (English name) and is the only clan that still uses their original Gaelic name as their official name.

Thank you for visiting our Clan Donnachaidh Society of Florida website!  For many years our state branch has operated the society as a “Family Reunion” at the many games and festivals held throughout the state each year. At these games, we try to provide a welcome spot for our clan family members, and those considering membership; a place to meet, rest, share some food and drink, and to enjoy the relationship of finding clan family members.

Our Florida branch activities have traditionally revolved around various Scottish games and festivals.  Currently, we are trying to branch out to non-festival activities.  We will start out small and try to build up to more creative types of activities.  We have begun, through the appointment of four Member Area Directors, one for each of the major areas of our state; north, central/east, west, and south.  Each director will plan a gathering for those members in his/her specific area, with everyone invited, of course.  We strive to stay in touch with our members statewide by the "Donnachaidh Doings" newsletter (published four times per year), frequent updates and items of interest via e-mail from the secretary, and our “Clan Family Prayer Circle” for our Clan family members who have need of our thoughts and prayers.  One of our clan members has asked that the Donnachaidh Doings newsletters include family announcements and happenings with our individual families. That is a GREAT idea!  All you have to do is contact us and it will be in the next issue.

On behalf of our branch Officers, we welcome you to the Clan Donnachaidh Society of Florida website.   We hope you and your family will join in the fun and become very active with your clan family members. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas, please contact one of the Officers.  We are pleased to hear from you ANYTIME.

Clan Donnachaidh Surnames

or Related family names

Clan Donnachaidh, which means the children of Duncan, emerged from the union of the Scottish and Pictish kingdoms and counts amongst its forebears the Kindred of St. Columba. The main clan name and that of the chiefs is Robertson, but many other names taken by those descending from the chiefs or belonging to the families who lived on clan estates and sought the chief's protection can be considered Surnames of the clan.

The most prominent are Duncan, Robertson, and Reid but others that may be Surnames include:

Collier
Colyear Connochie
  Conochie Cunnison Dobbie
  Dobbin Dobie Dobieson
  Dobinson Dobson Donachie
  Donachy Duncan Duncanson
  Dunnachie Hobson Inches
  Kynoch MacConachie MacConchie
  MacConechy MacConich MacConnochie
  MacCullich MacDonachie MacGlashan
  MacInroy MacIver MacIvor
  MacJames MacLagan MacOnachie
  MacRobbie MacRobert MacRoberts
  MacRobie MacWilliam Read
  Reed Reid Robbie
  Roberts Robison Robson
  Roy Stark Tonnochy

If your parents, grandparents, or great-grand parents on either side have any of these last names, you are a member of Clan Donnachaidh!

Remember, when your relatives came over to the USA, the workers for the government did not care if they spelled the last name correctly, so if your last name is spelled remotely like any of these, you are STILL a  member of Clan Donnachaidh!
