Greetings Florida Clan Donnachaidh Society Members, I would like to take this opportunity to share some wonderful news about our Clan Secretary, Christy Lange. As you know she does a great deal for our Florida branch, stays in touch with everyone, and facilitates our Clan Family Prayer Circle. It is my pleasure to let you all know that Christy has also accepted the prestigious position of International Vice Chairperson for all of Clan Donnachaidh International and will be a member of the Clan Donnachaidh Council in Scotland! With her hard work, enthusiasm, and the relationships she has built with the members and Clan Council in Scotland, everyone felt that she would be the best choice to take over this position since Jim Fargo will no longer be filling the role. Former International Vice Chairman, Bill Robertson, has offered to help Christy learn the ropes and to offer his guidance as she requests. The Clan Council unanimously approved her appointment and sent her confirmation on Wednesday, May 19th! An email was sent to Christy by Clan Council Chairman, Andrew Duncan, congratulating her and welcoming her to the position. As you might guess Christy feels honored. We are pleased and proud to have her also continue her duties as our Clan Branch Secretary. You can see the announcement of Christy's new position on the Clan Society website. Click on this link: http://www.donnachaidh.com to access the Home page, then click on the line, " International VC" from the left hand column. Here you can read the announcement. Then click on the line, "Meet our new International Vice Chairperson", where you will see a picture of Christy and a bio. Or you can click on “Current News” from the left hand column, then select “Meet our New International Vice Chairperson”. We hope you will join us in congratulating Christy on this incredible honor and share our best wishes for her successful endeavors! NON-PROFIT INCORPORATION STATUS Greetings from the Treasurer, The Annual Meeting this year formalized the issue of the Clan becoming a Non-Profit organization in order to afford some relief to the members who could benefit from this status based on their donations to the Clan and the hopes that we could draw in some Corporations by claiming this status. Additionally, this status will protect the Officers and Directors from Personal liability in issues dealing with the work they do for the Board. Further, plans to purchase the trailer currently being loaned to the Clan, can now hopefully be purchased and registered in the name of the Clan. The Board of Directors are working diligently to comply with your votes to complete the steps to move our Clan to a Non-Profit status and the process has begun with a check being written to Legalfilings.com in the amount of $653.00. This amount will include (guaranteed or a full refund) our Florida filing as an Incorporation (which will require yearly renewal fee’s), a new EIN number for IRS proposes (involves a new bank account and new check fees) and documents to submit to the IRS to obtain our Non Profit status. Member donations so far this year, either specifically donated to the Non-Profit process or to the General Fund, are an astounding $477.00. This leaves $176.00 which had to be spent out of the local dues category of our income normally used for printing and postage, Games fees and other supplies. Our President has agreed to pay the $400 fee to the IRS to file our application with the IRS which will not be refunded if our application is rejected. Thank you, Jeff. I would like to personally thank everyone who has contributed extra donations to the Clan this and every year, which has enabled the Board to comply with the Members votes to attempt to become a Non-Profit organization without stressing our normal operating budget to excess. Donations will continue to be greatly accepted to help make up the shortfall of this endeavor. Checks can be made payable to the Clan Society and sent to me at anytime. If you would like your donation specifically to go towards the Non-Profit expense please specify that on your check. Otherwise, once the deficit is made up, any donations will be used as part of the general operating funds to strengthen our financial position. Since becoming the Treasurer of our Clan, it has been my goal to insure we always remain solvent, that the dues collected from our Members are used to further the Clan goals and to insure the records involving these funds are above reproach. As Members, I believe that you expect this from your elected official and I do not take this responsibility lightly.
Sincerely, JoAnne Hudson February 28, 2010

NEWS FROM THE INTERNATIONAL GATHERING OF THE CLANS IN EDINBURGH - JULY 25 - 26, 2009
The Gathering "Homecoming Scotland" Parade up the Royal Mile
If the Gathering in Edinburgh was the jewel in Scotland’s Homecoming crown, then the parade up the Royal Mile arguably provided the sparkle in that jewel. The Saturday evening procession from the parliament to the castle was undertaken by 8,000 people, who were cheered on by a vocal crowd of over 20,000. Each clan grouped itself together for the historic march, and the cobbled streets of Edinburgh resounded with calls of support and jeers of derision as ancient loyalties were stirred and given modern voice. The parade made its way to the castle esplanade where they witnessed 200 performers in the massive production of Aisling’s Children, a saga of Scotland through the last 900 years. The weekend saw 60,000 visitors from at least 40 different countries congregate in the capital as the Scottish dispora returned for a celebration on the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns’ birth. Gathering organizers Lord Jamie Sempill and Jenny Gilmour said the event had “exceeded our wildest expectations.” They added: “The ambience and great sense of occasion was created by the people who joined us for this celebration of Scotland’s culture, clans and families. This was a truly international gathering – thank you for being a part of history.”

The Great Clan Donnachaidh descend on the Gathering Gilbert Robertson of Struan, 23rd Chief of Clan Donnachaidh is the head of one of most diverse of Scottish clans to attend the Gathering in Edinburgh. People from all over the world came together in the summer sun to celebrate the diaspora of Scots in all four corners of the earth. The event was organized as the showpiece of the Homecoming Year on the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns. Robertson was one of over 125 clan chiefs who enjoyed meeting and mingling with the crowds at the hugely successful event. “I think the clans are doing very well,” he said. “They have survived since Culloden. They’re still going and I think we will continue to go, and go from strength to strength. “ His clan is one of the most dynamic, and has a large number of family names associated with the clan including Robertson, Duncan, Reid, Robson, Robbie, MacConachie, Donachie, Inches, Stark, Collins, Roy, MacJames, MacLagan, MacIvor, MacWilliam, and Dobbin: 49 surnames in total. Addressing them all, the chief said “I would like to send you greetings from everybody in Scotland and wish you all very well.” The Clan Donnachaidh Society was launched in 1823, and now has seventeen overseas branches. A Clan Donnachaidh DNA surname project has been launched in Houston, Texas. The clan began with Donnachaidh Reamhair, Stout Duncan, a descendant of the Royal House of Duncan through the Celtic earls of Atholl. In nearly a millennium of history since then the clan have borne warriors and poets, sharing the same rise and fall as the rest of Gaelic culture which prompted many of the clan to make their way to the new world.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ORDER CLAN SHIRTS Members,
Several of you, at both the Southeast & the Central Florida games, asked about how to order shirts with the Clan Donnachaidh crest logo. Below is a link to the Queensboro Shirt Company where a subsite has been created for use by all of us. You now have access directly from your computer to order a shirt or other items. (Note that the logo presently on file is a little too large to fit on hats. John & I and Bob & Lori Santillana ordered several shirts last year so we know the quality is good.
Click on the link below and then look over to the right margin where the logo will appear. Bear in mind that the printed logo on the shirts is much sharper than that image. There are many types of shirts and other items available. If you have a problem, let me know. Happy shopping!
Christy Duncan Lange, Secretary

NOTE OF APPRECIATION: JoAnne Hudson and all children of Betty Reade so appreciate the outpouring of support we received regarding the loss of our mother, your thoughtfulness is truly treasured and will always be remembered. Mom so enjoyed being a member of the Clan Donnachaidh and cherished all the friends she made while a part of the Clan. Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat upon a chair. Perhaps you sent us beautiful flowers. If so, we saw them there. Perhaps you spoke the kindest words that any friend can say. Perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day. Whatever you did to console our hearts, We thank you so much, whatever your part.
